gaysky.org is a free, community-run service that allows you to create custom Bluesky handles using the .gaysky.org domain. It's designed to help LGBTQIA+ community members showcase their identity and affiliation on the Bluesky social network.
Is this service really free?
Yes! gaysky.org is completely free and always will be. This is a community service run by volunteers who believe in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community. There are no hidden fees, subscriptions, or costs.
How do I get my Bluesky DID?
Your DID (Decentralized Identifier) can be found in the Bluesky app. Go to Settings > Account > Handle > "I have my own domain". Your DID will be displayed there. We have a detailed step-by-step guide to help you.
How long does it take for my handle to work?
After registration, DNS changes typically propagate within 2-10 minutes. Once complete, you can verify your new handle in the Bluesky app. If it doesn't work immediately, wait a few minutes and try again.
Can I change my handle later?
Currently, the service doesn't have a self-service handle modification feature. If you need to change your handle, please contact the administrator via Bluesky at @obeone.bsky.social.
What do you do with my email address?
Your email is used solely for account management purposes (like handle recovery or important service updates). We never share, sell, or use your email for marketing. Your privacy is our priority.
Do I need to be LGBTQIA+ to use this service?
While gaysky.org is designed to celebrate and support the LGBTQIA+ community, allies are welcome! Anyone who supports equality and inclusion is invited to use this service.
Can I use my handle on multiple devices?
Yes! Your gaysky.org handle is tied to your Bluesky account (via your DID), not to any specific device. You can use it on any device where you're logged into your Bluesky account.
What if my desired handle is taken?
If your desired handle is already taken, you'll need to choose a different one. Try adding numbers, initials, or variations. The "Check" button will let you know if a handle is available before you register.
Who runs gaysky.org?
gaysky.org is maintained by obeone, a developer who created this service to support the LGBTQIA+ community on Bluesky. This is not affiliated with Bluesky, PBC.
